Classic St. Augustine
The most widely used home-lawn turf in Tampa. It adapts to most soils and loves full sun, performing well with proper care. Without regular maintenance it's susceptible to chinch bugs, gray leaf spot, and other turf diseases.
Finer-bladed St. Augustine
Similar to Floratam but with a deeper blue color and finer blades, so it works well in light shade and transitions smoothly with Floratam in sunny zones. Mow at three to four inches, never removing more than a third of the blade height.
Newer St. Augustine
A newer St. Augustine variety that combines strong shade tolerance, disease resistance, and a vibrant blue-green color into one resilient, lush lawn.
Scott's ProVista
Bred for reduced vertical growth, so it needs mowing far less often. It tolerates shade and partial shade with good cold tolerance and disease resistance. Note: newer Roundup lawn formulas can damage ProVista — see our blog before choosing a weed control product.
Warm-season Zoysia
A lush, dense, carpet-like grass with soft, medium-textured blades. It tolerates heat, drought, and wear with good shade tolerance and quick recovery from damage — ideal for higher-traffic yards.
Fine-bladed Bermuda
A high-performance turf built for heavy foot traffic and intense sun. Fast growth, quick recovery, strong drought tolerance, and disease resistance make it a fit for sports fields and busy residential landscapes.
Florida 'field grass'
Budget-friendly and exceptionally drought-tolerant, Bahia recovers vigorously and needs no regular irrigation. It arrives coarser and with more seed heads, so it's popular for larger yards, roadsides, and lower-maintenance lots where a manicured look isn't the priority.
Nitrogen-fixing legume
Not a grass but a nitrogen-fixing legume ground cover with dense, dark-green foliage and bright yellow flowers. It withstands drought, heat, and heavy traffic while naturally enriching the soil — minimal mowing and pest resistance make it a great eco-friendly alternative.
